POLINSAR 2021 – 10th International Workshop on Science and Applications of SAR Polarimetry and Polarimetric Interferometry

April 26 @ 08:00 - April 30 @ 17:00

The European Space Agency is organising the 10th International Workshop on Science and Applications of SAR Polarimetry and Polarimetric Interferometry, POLINSAR 2021.

The workshop will be held entirely online on the following dates:
10th POLINSAR Workshop: 26 – 30 April 2021

The event will be accompanied by two side events:
– 6th ESA Advanced Course on Radar Polarimetry – dates to be confirmed
– Second Biomass Retrieval Inter-comparison eXperiment – BRIX-2 dates to be confirmed

POLinSAR 2021 Objectives:

  • Provide a forum for scientific exchange
  • Present the latest exploitation results from full-pol airborne and spaceborne systems and assess the state-of-the-art
  • Review retrieved bio-geophysical parameters and their accuracy
  • Make recommendations for algorithm development and new products
  • Support the preparation for ESA and Third Parties full-pol missions exploitation (BIOMASS, NOVASAR-S, RCM, SAOCOM, TerraSAR-L etc.)
  • Present innovative polarimetric applications and ideas for future polarimetric mission concepts Report on the status of POLinSAR 2019 recommendations

PolInSAR 2021 Sessions

  • Methods and Theoretical Modelling
  • Calibration and Validation
  • SAR Polarimetry
  • Compact/Hybrid Polarimetry
  • Bistatic Polarimetry
  • Tomography
  • SAR Polarimetric Interferometry (Pol-InSAR)
  • Persistent Scatterers Interferometry (PSI)
  • Applications of SAR Polarimetry:
    – Land: Forest, Agriculture, Environment, Wetlands, Soil Moisture;
    – Ocean: Pollution Monitoring, Ship Detection, Parameters Retrieval;
    – Cryosphere: Snow, Land Ice and Sea Ice;
    – Hazards: Fire Monitoring, Volcanoes, Flooding, Earthquake;
    – Other Applications (e.g. Urban)
  • Past, Current (eg. ALOS-2, Sentinel-1, GF-3, RISAT) and Future SAR Missions (e.g. BIOMASS, NovaSAR-S, RCM, SAOCOM, NISAR, TerraSAR-L)
  • Airborne and Spaceborne campaigns

The Workshops shall bring together:
  • ESA Principal Investigators, scientists and students working in the field of SAR Polarimetry and Polarimetric Interferometry;
  • Biomass science, international forest network, UNFCCC REDD+, carbon and climate modelling communities;
  • Users of data from current and future SAR missions like SENTINEL-1, BIOMASS, ALOS 2, RADARSAT Constellation Mission (RCM), NOVASAR-S, SAOCOM;
  • Representatives from National, European and International space and value adding industry.

Participation in the oral and poster programme will be decided by the Scientific Committee following the review of submitted abstracts.

No participation fees will be charged. Participants are expected to finance their own travel and accommodation expenses.

The official language of workshops is English.
