Who we are
Our website address is: https://spaceleaks.com. We refer to it as “the site”, “this website”, and similar sentences. This site is owned and maintained by Alfonso Delgado-Bonal, PhD. The main purpose of the site is to be an indexing site of space-related news. We add a short summary of the topic and a link to the reference place.
We encourage the users to visit any site (including this one) using “incognito” or “private” windows, and make use of TOR or DuckDuckGo Web browsers to minimize the personal data (such as tracking information) sites collect.
What personal data we collect and why we collect it
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
This site, including the comments, is protected by reCAPTCHA and the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply. The user agrees with the collection of the necessary data to determine its robotic or human status. We might also be using Akismet to reduce spam. You can learn here how your comment data is processed.
Media
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website. By default, any submission to the site is saved as draft and its approval depends on the editor’s criteria. However, we do not review the metadata of the images.
Contact forms
The user agrees to provide all the information in the contact form necessary to solve the issue and contact the user back, including name, last name, email address and message. Similarly, the user agrees to disclose their email address and receive newsletters and communications from Spaceleaks when they subscribe or register to the site.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed. We do not have control over other services that may remember your password and username such as Google.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.
When you visit our site, different windows (pop-ups) might appear to show notices or offer the possibility to subscribe to our site. When you close the window, a cookie is created to avoid showing the same message during the following days. At the moment, the duration of those cookies is 10 days but it might change without
Surfing the site using “incognito” or “private” windows will result in less data stored in the browser and the user will need to log in every visit to write comments.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website. That content is loaded here as a reference and citation to the source.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website. The user is referred to their privacy policy websites for further details in case they visit those sites.
Analytics
We use analytics software such as Google analytics to improve the site and user experience. Google Analytics Remarketing uses cookies to track users who visit the website and display ads to these users when they are on other websites. There’s an opt-out browser add-on from Google that helps make opting out easy and convenient for users that do not want to participate in this.
Who we share your data with
We do not sell or share your data with anyone. As mentioned above, you agree to the data recorded by Google reCaptcha and we do not have any control over that.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are kept indefinitely. The decision of deleting comments and news will be made by the editorial team without needing permission from the users.
Of the users who register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information that they provide in their user profile. All users can view, edit or delete their personal information at any time (except that they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also view and edit this information. Should the users decide to opt-out from our website, they can delete their profile or contact the administrators requesting to do so (contact@spaceleaks.com).
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where we send your data
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service. We use Google reCaptcha for that. We also use reCaptcha for protecting the forms in our site.
Similarly, the entire comments service may be handled by an external company. If so, the name of the company will be noted in the comments section of each page. The user must visit the website of that company to understand what use is being made of their comments.
Your contact information
The user agrees to provide their name, last name, and email address when they register in the site.
