SpaceX has acquired two semi-submersible drilling rigs from offshore driller Valaris, with plans to convert them into floating launch pads for its Starship rocket for its upcoming operational offshore rocket launch facility.

Valaris filed for chapter 11 last year and sold the two rigs SpaceX for $3.5m each, which have been renamed Deimos and Phobos after the names of two moons of Mars.
