An engine issue appeared to cause SN9 to land explosively after six minutes of the test.
SN9 liftoff off with three Raptor engines and ascended to an altitude of 10 kilometers. Unfortunately, one of the Raptor engines ejected debris seconds before the landing and did not ignite for the final landing “flip maneuver” to re-orient itself vertically for landing, exploding as it touched the ground.
Starship SN10 was close to the explosion but did not suffer any damage.
Once in final production and out of the prototype phase, the massive launch system will likely replace Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy.
